When will you begin the upcoming school year?

For some, maybe even many, this is a loaded question!  For others, probably the more organized and ambitious, the date was set before the last school year ended.

Whatever the case, I placed a poll on my blog asking this very question: When will you begin the upcoming school year?  The poll is located to the right of my most recent blog post.  I sure hope you will participate!

  1. For our very first year homeschooling, we're just going to see about staying on the same schedule as our local public school so the girls feel like they have the same days off as their friends who are still going to school. We'll see how it goes!

  2. I like year round schooling with more breaks, but I have tried to do this. The reason here seems to be that my husband is a teacher and when he is here we just can not get anything done. Well, this year he got his first Assistant Principal job, so he will go back to work a couple of weeks earlier. We will school when he is working, so for the most part we will follow our public school schedule (Bleech!!!). We will start a couple weeks sooner than the public school since he has to and he will work a couple of weeks longer at the end of the year, so we will probably do the same. That allows us about four weeks more of "off days" through out the year.

I think the most important thing is that you find what works best for your family. To me it makes more sense to do more school during the hot days of Summer and the cold days of Winter, since we spend our time indoors anyways. Year round schooling is my favorite option, so you can take off on those beautiful Fall days of Spring days when you want to. Just my thoughts.

  3. We will be taking a break in October when our new baby comes, and I suspect that break will last through the holidays. So, we are schooling now. I voted the first answer because it was the one that fit best.

  4. We started today, part-time. We'll do three days this week. We'll stick to three or four days per week through August and four in the fall. (Busch Gardens is nice and empty every Friday through Oct. LOL) And we have a family visit this month too.

  5. I answered "1st or 2nd week of August," though it's really more complicated than that, this year in particular. But everything that's been "weird" about school stuff lately has clarified our preferred schedule, which I intend to stick to: start a new core in early August but keep it lighter until after Labor Day; keep a full but workable schedule Labor Day-Memorial Day; lighten the load and wrap-up between Memorial Day and mid-June; summer vacation from mid-June through July. So we started (kind of re-started)...but lightly...today! :^)

  6. I had planned to start August 1, but my kids' activities (dance and soccer) have morning practices until the public schools start here. So we'll start school when the public schools do in a couple of weeks.

Found you through the MFW Blogroll. I'm also going to be doing RtR this year. I'm your newest follower.

  7. Don't know how to vote because you don't have October in your poll... but there you have it.
